Settings
Settings contains the datasource-wide settings for appearance, languages, security, client synchronization and the Office ribbon. The settings of the classic Outlook add-in are under Communication › Outlook (Classic). All these pages are visible to system administrators and developers. Package export and import has its own Export and import area and is reserved for system administrators.
Values that are not set are shown with the system default. Invalid input, for example numbers outside the permitted range, addresses without http:// or https:// or malformed XML, is marked at the field and blocks saving. XML errors name the line and column. Saved changes take effect on the server within one minute. Clients pick them up with their next synchronization, the help link only after a restart.
General
| Setting | Effect |
|---|---|
| Client accent color | Colour scheme in the primedocs client as a hex value. Without a value, the primedocs default colour applies. |
| Help link and Help title | Target and label of the help entry in the client. Titles can be entered per language. Without a link, the entry leads to the primedocs online help. |
| Snippet hotkeys | Key combination for inserting snippets by their AutoText name, optionally per interface language. Without a hotkey, the function is disabled. |
Languages
The page manages the document and interface languages of the datasource. The concept behind it is described in Languages.
- Default languages: default document language and default interface language. Only languages for which primedocs ships interface texts can be selected as interface language.
- Language list: for each language, whether it is available as document language and as interface language, and the order. «Add language» adds further languages.
- Transfer: moves display names and descriptions («interface texts») or document content of one language into another. Entries that already exist in the target remain unchanged there and stay in the source language.
- Remove language: deletes field and snippet content, template assignments, localisations and translations of this language. Default languages cannot be removed.
After changing the default language, clients that have already synchronized must reset their caches, and the localisations of the previous default language must be transferred manually. Removing a language cannot be undone. Transfer existing content beforehand.
Security
In the navigation, the page is called Security & Compliance.
Symmetric key: The key of the datasource encrypts secrets such as passwords and connection strings, see Encryption. The page shows whether a key exists and its fingerprint. The fingerprint allows two datasources to be compared without revealing the key.
- Show key: shows the existing key, for example to store the same key on another datasource.
- Generate new key: generates a random 256-bit key.
- Apply key: use «Enter key» to insert the Base64 key of another datasource.
A new or applied key makes all previously encrypted values unreadable. They must then be entered again.
Encrypt and decrypt values (only with an existing key): encrypt a value with the key of the datasource to insert it into a configuration, or read an encrypted configuration in plain text again. When decrypting, the whole configuration text can be pasted, every encrypted value it contains is replaced.
Privacy: With «User data in log entries», user name and user ID are stored in the log entries, for example for template and snippet usage and in the import journal. If the setting is off, only the name and ID of the organizational unit are stored.
Log entry retention: The log entries are the basis of the usage statistics and record every package import. If a retention period in days is set, the JobHost deletes older entries on each run. Without a value, all entries are kept. The HealthMonitor warns if a retention period is set but the cleanup has not run for more than seven days.
Synchronization
| Setting | Effect |
|---|---|
| Sync interval | Interval between two client synchronizations in milliseconds, at least 60,000 (one minute). See ClientSyncInterval. |
| Max. delay after start | If the last sync is older than the sync interval when the client starts, the client synchronizes after a random waiting time up to this value. The client reduces values above the sync interval to the interval. |
| Reset all client caches | Tells all clients to discard their caches and synchronize again, see Server-side cache reset. The reset takes effect immediately and cannot be undone. Use only in an emergency. |
Office ribbon
The Office ribbon page edits the ribbon configuration of the COM add-ins in three sections: Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Outlook (classic add-in) and Word (classic add-in). Each section can be edited visually or in the XML editor.
- Ribbon position and Hidden elements (internal ribbon IDs, separated by semicolons): for Word, Excel and PowerPoint only.
- Custom groups: additional groups with group ID, labels and controls (IdMso), plus group references, for all sections. Each label applies to a specific language. A group with labels or controls but without an ID blocks saving.
Outlook (Classic)
This page controls the behaviour of the classic Outlook add-in (COM). The settings correspond to the Outlook feature configuration.
| Setting | Effect |
|---|---|
| Number of campaigns in the add-in | How many campaigns are offered when writing an email (1–100). |
| Subject classification | Ribbon button that writes a classification as a prefix into the subject. Prefixes and labels per language. |
| Sensitivity in the ribbon | Buttons that toggle the Outlook sensitivity of an email between «Normal» and a configured level (Private, Confidential, Personal). This is not the Microsoft Purview sensitivity label. |
| Change profile automatically | Switches to a matching profile when composing, replying, forwarding or changing the sender. |
| Signature write protection | Protects the signature area against accidental overwriting. Microsoft Copilot can be restricted in protected message bodies. |
| Automatic signature | Adjusts the signature automatically based on rules. |
If subject classification, sensitivity or profile change is switched off and on again before saving, the previous configuration is kept. After saving in the switched-off state, it is removed.
